About the Pianist

Classical Pianist & Piano Teacher

Based in Calgary, Kimberley Yim holds both Licentiate and Associate diplomas (LRCM & ARCT) from the Royal Conservatory of Music. As a performer, Kim has performed locally and internationally, recognized with numerous awards. As an educator, she has cultivated a reputation for excellence; her studio built entirely on referrals, with students typically training under her guidance for 5 to 10 years. Most recently, she received the ARMTA Teacher Education Grant in 2024.

Teaching Philosophy & Experience

Since 2012, Kim has prepared students for RCM and LCM exams. The first student she taught from their very first piano lesson to completion of RCM Level 10 received an ARMTA Silver Medal and the Joan Bell Scholarship. She is proud to see her students’ rapid progress and deepening enjoyment of practice as time progresses.

Kim believes that through the practice of an instrument, one may cultivate a healthy blueprint for all walks of life. She views music education as a foundational toolkit for human development - one which teaches critical thinking and problem solving, cultivates discipline alongside creativity, and forges vital mental and emotional resilience. Ultimately, music opens a gateway into the depth of human experience, a bottomless well of enjoyment, fostering a lifelong appreciation for art and artistry. Most of all, Kim hopes to instill a love of learning through her teaching.

In each lesson, Kim seeks to create a stepping stone toward mastery, a solution to a problem, and have students leave feeling competent, capable, and inspired. She enjoys coaching students of all ages and levels, enriching their musical knowledge.

Collaborative Piano & Event Bookings

Alongside being a dedicated teacher to her students, Kim is a collaborative pianist, offering accompaniment for instrumentalists and vocalists at all events, from RCM exams to juries, recitals, and more.

A pianist who takes pleasure in creating special moments, with the ability to deliver anything from Pop Hits to Classical Masterpieces, Kim is available for performance bookings at any event, from weddings to wine nights and private concerts.

Background & Training

Kim began her classical piano training at the age of 7 under the tutelage of esteemed pianist, teacher and composer, Peter Rudzik, at Mount Royal University Conservatory. Within Calgary Kim is an active performer and supports the music community through her involvement with several prominent organizations. She served as the convener of ACRA (ARMTA Calgary Recital & Awards) for 3 years, 2024-2026.
